Lizards, Idiots and Heroes Oh My - A week of Movies

By Gary;

It may not be Wabbit Season, but it is certainly Movie Season.

The Mrs. and I have been busy at the movies, and I have to say there is a ton of quality stuff hitting the silver screen these days.

LIZARDS  -  Godzilla

I mean really, how could someone not go to see the new Godzilla?  This is one of the classic franchises.

The fact the Bryan Cranston was in the movie attracted me.  Pity that he was misused.

Aside from that, this was a Godzilla movie.  Roars, stomping, buildings falling etc.  It delivers what the franchise requires but little more.

There is an interesting twist with the MUTOs (Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organisms) which are the enemy of Godzilla.  They emit an electro magnetic pulse knocking out modern military and civilian technology.  Gotta keep up with the times.

Over all I would place the 1998 Matthew Broderick Godzilla film ahead of the current version.

But I did not expect much going in and went out entertained.  My childhood Godzilla fix has been satisfied for another few years.

Kate Upton - The only reason to see The Other Woman

Idiots  -  The Other Woman

My wife is tolerant to a point of giant lizards and alien face huggers.  But the time comes when we need to do the chick flick.  So off we went to see The Other Woman.

I like a number of chick flick films I have seen over the years from Moonstruck (1987) to Miss Congeniality (2000) to Pride & Prejudice (2005).  So we both thought to give the comedy The Other Woman a try.

What a mistake.  We both agreed that the film was written by 3rd rate talentless Hollywood hacks.  A comedy with no humor.  A horrid steaming pile of crap that is only saved from the black hole of film history by Kate Upton's chest.

Even Cameron Diaz appears lost.  She goes through the motions of reading her lines knowing her check for the movie has already cleared the bank.  Leslie Mann may have destroyed her already so-so career by doing such a suckingly hideous acting job that you want to throw things at the screen.

How this garbage pulled in $150 million in ticket sales is beyond me.

Heroes  -  Captain America: The Winter Soldier

The Winter Soldier was a stunning surprise.  The first Captain America was OK.  It set the stage.  But being stuck in World War II kept it from rising high in the film world of Superheroes.

Not so the new movie.  Chris Evans hits a total home run as Cap, and Samuel L. Jackson is, well, Samuel L. Jackson.  Both dominate the screen.  For those that missed it read closely the tombstone next to Jackson at the end.  A wonderful tip of the hat to Pulp Fiction.

As for Scarlett Johansson, I am still trying to put my tongue back in my mouth.

A great action plot that continues the never ending Marvel soap opera of stories.  The special effects are top notch.

There is nothing not to like.  This now ranks as one of the best Superhero films ever.  Currently they have sold $703 million in tickets worldwide.
