Sunday Concert - 40th Anniversary of Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

This last year has been the 40th anniversary of one of the greatest rock albums of all time: Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.

Road is the seventh studio album by the English singer-songwriter Elton John. It has come to be regarded as one of his best and most popular albums.  The album has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide.

Originally single from the Yellow Brick Road album, a re-release of the single "Candle in the Wind 1997"/"Something About the Way You Look Tonight" in 1997 as a tribute to the late Diana, Princess of Wales.

The 1997 single is "the biggest-selling single since UK and US singles charts began in the 1950s, having accumulated worldwide sales of 33 million copies," making it the second-best-selling single of all time after Bing Crosby's "White Christmas."

Here are four selections from Yellow Brick Road.

The music is good, but sorry it is best quality available on YouTube.  The concert does catch a younger Elton still full of energy cranking out great rock music.

Funeral For A Friend - Love Lies Bleeding
As far as I am concerned this is not only Elton's best song, it is fantastic rock and roll.  Elton is know for his ballads but Funeral for a Friend is superior classic rock.

Harmony

Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics and Elton the music.
