Federalist Party

(Here is another in our continuing series on the Federalist Party. They helped created this great nation, gave us liberty and our Constitution. But would they even recognize the centralized, authoritarian and Big Brother country that calls itself the United States?)

By Gary;

The Internet has taken me to Nerd Heaven on more than one occasion.  On the net you can find some of the most obscure, strange and interesting things imaginable.

In this case I ran across a blog created by a student at the University of Oxford dealing with American election results going back to 1789.  A fellow election nerd.  Bless him.

If all you read was school text books you might think that Jefferson, Madison and Monroe were worshiped by voters everywhere.  But that type of history has always been fantasy.

Huge portions of American society opposed the Jeffersonian style anti-bank, anti-commerce, anti-internal improvements, anti-military policies that appealed to unthinking mob rule.  Though out of power from 1800 on the Federalists continued to aggressively oppose the Jeffersonians.

Slowly portions of the public woke up to the gross incompetence of Jeffersonian rule.

Gross Incompetence

There is nothing like the gross incompetence of an administration to breath life into the opposition party.

The Jeffersonian Democrat-Republicans systematically starved the American military allowing everyone from the British to the Barbary pirates to walk all over us.  The propaganda "to the shores of Tripoli" still exists to cover up the fact that Jefferson's military policies were a total failure that ended up in the U.S. paying ransom to Islamist pirates to temporarily end the war.

Rather than build a strong American military and economy, Jefferson pretended to "punish" England with Embargo Act of 1807.  The real aim was to politically punish the states that supported the Federalist Party. By spring 1808 New England ports were nearly shut down, and the regional economy headed into a depression, with growing unemployment.

Election of 1816

The incompetence of the Democrat-Republicans up to and during the War of 1812 caused a revival of the Federalist Party.  The people were so angry that only four months after Madison's declaration of war against Britain the Federalist fusion ticket for President won 48% of the vote nearly beating Founding Father James Madison.

But by 1816 the war was over.  The war had been a bumbled mess with no meaningful change in Britain's policies.  But because of Andrew Jackson's last minute victory at New Orleans the Democrat-Republicans got the credit for some great "victory" in a national wave of patriotism.

So James Monroe rode the wave of victory in war in the election of 1816.  He also adopted the Federalist policies of a national bank and protective tariffs.

The Federalists floundered with no foreign enemy, their issues taken and the Hartford Convention pulling them down.  The Federalists ceased to be a major force in national politics.

Still Opposition to the Democrat-Republicans

With everything going against them and for their opponents, many voters were still opposing the Jeffersonians.

Politics never changes.  It would be a cold day in Hell before Hamiltonians would cast their vote for a follower of Jefferson and vice versa.

The Federalists could still command nearly 41% of the vote in Pennsylvania against Democrat-Republican James Monroe.

So we return to the Internet Blog I ran across.  Below are two maps showing the strength of Federalism among voters.

In yet another state the Jeffersonian Democrat-Republicans still faced stiff opposition from Federalist voters.

Presidential election of 1816
Support for the Federalist Party largely came from the coastal states where money and jobs were created from imports and exports to Europe and the Caribbean.  As voters moved inland the economic issues of trade and commerce became far less important to them.
.
The hot button issues for these new voters became "free" land to be stolen by law or war from their neighbors in British Canada, Spain or the Indian tribes.  In this growing western frontier area the Jeffersonian Democrat-Republican Party racked up huge majorities.

U.S. Senate elections, 1816
While the Federalist Party was overwhelmed in the 1816 Electoral College they continued to elect large numbers of U.S. Senators through the end of the decade.
.
The War of 1812 saw a massive revival of the Federalist Party.  Anti-war feeling pushed the fusion Federalist Party Presidential ticket up to 48% of the vote (up from 32% in 1808).  James Madison was nearly defeated because of his incompetent policies.  The Federalist revival saw a huge jump in new Federalist Congressmen.
.
But the revival of the two party system was not to be. The unfortunate Federalist Hartford Convention combined General Andrew Jackson's overwhelming victory in New Orleans swept over the Northeast.  Voters conveniently "forgot" their anti-war views.  The Federalists were discredited resulting in their elimination as a major national political force.
.
By the election of 1822 Federalists in the House had dwindled to 24 Congressmen and only 5 Senators.  In 1824 the surviving Federalists mostly merged with supporters of former Federalist U.S. Senator, and now President, John Quincy Adams. Eventually the Adams party became the new National Republican Party.

The Federalist Party was the first American political party. In Presidential politics the Federalists operated from the early 1790s to 1816, the era of the First Party System. Remnants of the Party lasted until 1830. The Federalists totally controlled the Federal government until 1801.

The party was formed by Alexander Hamilton, who, during George Washington's first term, built a network of supporters, largely urban bankers and businessmen, to support his Conservative fiscal policies. These supporters grew into the Federalist Party committed to a fiscally sound and nationalistic government. The United States' only Federalist President was John Adams; although George Washington was broadly sympathetic to the Federalist program, he remained an independent his entire presidency.

Koran should be read at Prince Charles' coronation says top bishop

When Christians no longer believe in Christ

(Daily Mail)  -  Prince Charles’s coronation service should be opened with a reading from the Koran, a senior Church of England bishop said yesterday.

The gesture would be a ‘creative act of accommodation’ to make Muslims feel ‘embraced’ by the nation, Lord Harries of Pentregarth said.

But critics attacked the idea, accusing the Church of ‘losing confidence’ in its own institutions and traditions.

Lord Harries, a former Bishop of Oxford and a leading CofE liberal thinker, said he was sure Charles’s coronation would give scope to leaders of non-Christian religions to give their blessing to the new King.

The former Bishop of Oxford, who continues to serve as an assistant bishop in the diocese of Southwark, made the suggestion about the Koran during a House of Lords debate. He told peers the Church of England should take the lead in ‘exercising its historic position in a hospitable way’.

Inbreeding
Reason #37 why Americans overthrew the monarchy.

He said that at a civic service in Bristol Cathedral last year authorities had agreed to a reading of the opening passage of the Koran before the beginning of the Christian ritual. He said: ‘It was a brilliant creative act of accommodation that made the Muslim high sheriff feel, as she said, warmly embraced but did not alienate the core congregation.

‘That principle of hospitality can and should be reflected in many public ceremonies, including the next coronation service.’

Lord Harries’ suggestion comes more than 20 years after the Prince first said he would prefer to be seen as ‘Defender of Faith’ rather than be known by the monarch’s title of ‘Defender of the Faith’.

Charles said in 1994 he ‘always felt the Catholic subjects of the sovereign are equally as important as the Anglican ones, as the Protestant ones’.

‘Likewise, I think that Islamic subjects, or the Hindu subjects, or the Zoroastrian subjects of the sovereign, are of equal and vital importance.’ In 2006 the Prince made known that he wanted a multifaith coronation that would be more ‘focused and telecentric’ than his mother’s in 1953.

However traditionalist Christians condemned Lord Harries’s idea.

Simon Calvert of the Christian Institute think-tank said: ‘Most people will be amazed at the idea that a Christian leader would consider the use of the Koran at a Christian service in a Christian abbey.

People are just so disappointed when senior Church of England figures lose confidence in the claims of the Christian faith.’

Andrea Minichiello Williams, a member of the CofE’s parliament, the General Synod, and head of the Christian Concern pressure group, said: ‘At a time when we are looking at what British values mean, we cannot have values in a vacuum. British values stem from our Christian heritage.

‘We cannot pretend all religions are the same, or have the same benefits and outcomes for the nation.’

Douglas Murray, associate editor of the Spectator, said if Muslims were included in the coronation service, there must be room to for Hindus, Sikhs, and atheists.

Feds spend $466,642 to study why obese girls have less sex

Yet another bi-partisan spending program

I just can't help myself

  • Yo mama is so fat she doesn’t need the internet; she’s already world wide.
  • Yo mama so fat she left the house in high heels and when she came back she had on flip flops.
  • Yo mama so fat she went to KFC to get a bucket of chicken they asked her what size and she said the one on the roof.
  • Yo mama so fat the army stole her underwear to use as parachutes

The National Institute for Health grant allocated $466,642 to the Magee-Women’s Research Institute to study the sexual habits of obese girls, including how often they have sex and why they are less likely to use protection when they do.

“Obese girls consistently report having fewer dating and sexual experiences, but more sexual risk behaviors [i.e., condom nonuse] once they are sexually active,” the study abstract states.

Money from the 2014 study will also be used to see how race plays into the sex life of girls.

“Finally, by exploring how relationship experiences differ among African American and White adolescent girls, our approach acknowledges that cultural differences in beauty norms exist and are important,” the abstract says.

The study will compare sexual relationships between obese girls and non-obese girls. A NIH grant spent about $170,000 on a similar study last year that examined how being lesbian or gay affects a person’s weight and health.

Actress gets 26 years in jail for "blasphemy" in Pakistan

Freedom of speech and thought do not exist under Islam

An actress was sentenced to 26 years in jail by a Pakistani anti-terrorism court for "malicious acts" of blasphemy, the U.K.s' Independent reports.

Veena Malik, along with her husband Asad Bashir Khan Khattak and Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman, the owner of the network that aired the "blasphemous" television program, have been given 104 years combined in prison by the Pakistani court.
The offending program aired several months ago and features a couple reenacting their wedding vows based on the marriage of the Prophet Mohammed's daughter.

Announcing the verdict on Tuesday, judge Raja Shahbaz ordered the police make arrests under Section 19 (10) of the Anti-Terrorism Act in case of disobedience, as well as sell the properties of the offendants.

“After evaluation of the entire evidence of the prosecution, I am of the considered opinion that the prosecution has proved its case against proclaimed offenders and absconders,” Shahbaz said.

The order reads: “The malicious acts of the proclaimed offenders ignited the sentiments of all the Muslims of the country and hurt the feelings, which cannot be taken lightly and there is need to strictly curb such tendency.”

The judge asked for immediate arrest of Malik, her husband and Shakil-ur-Rahman who are reportedly living in the United Arab Emirates.

"26 years! Come on. 26 years is a lifetime...But I have faith in higher courts in Pakistan," Malik said according to Gulf News.

"I have faced highs and lows in my life. But I am sure I haven't done anything wrong."

The court's verdict will only be enforced in the city of Gilgit which is in shared control between the India-claimed Kashmir region and Pakistan.

The ruling will not be enforced in the rest of Pakistan as Gilgit is not considered a proper providence of Pakistan, the Independent reports.

The convicted parties were also ordered to pay a fine of 3 million rupees ($12,630) and surrender their passports.

The court case is the latest controversy surrounding the Bollywood actress.

In 2011, she caused a stir when she posed for risque pictures for Indian FHM.

Obama attacks Syria, NOT Islamic State

It Was Never about Islamic State

  • CIA armed Islamists are attacking Russian armed Syrian government troops.  The entire "war" on ISIS is a Cold War, US vs. Russia, fantasy wet-dream. . . . nevermind the that Russian backed troops are protecting the Christian minority.

BEIRUT (Associated Press)  —  Syrian rebels backed by the United States are making their biggest gains yet south of the capital Damascus, capturing a string of towns from government forces and aiming to carve out a swath of territory leading to the doorstep of President Bashar Assad's seat of power.

The advances appear to be a rare visible success story from efforts by the U.S. and its allies to train and arm moderate rebel fighters.
The rebel forces are believed to include fighters who graduated from a nearly 2-year-old CIA training program based in Syria's southern neighbor Jordan. The group known as the Friends of Syria, including Jordan, France the U.S. and Saudi Arabia, are backing the rebels with money and weapons, said Gen. Ibrahim Jbawi, the spokesman for the Free Syrian Army's southern front.
The gains are a contrast to northern Syria, where U.S.-backed rebels are collapsing in the face of an assault by Islamic militants. Notably, in the south, the rebels are working together with fighters from al-Qaida's Syria branch, whose battle-hardened militants have helped them gain the momentum against government forces. The cooperation points to the difficulty in American efforts to build up "moderate" factions while isolating extremists.
"The goal is to reach the capital ... because there is no way to bring down the regime without reaching Damascus," said Ahmad al-Masalmeh, an opposition activist in Daraa.
The rebel offensive gained momentum two months ago, leading to the capture of much of the Quneitra region bordering Syria's Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, as well as large areas in the southern province of Daraa on the border with Jordan.

The rebel offensive could eventually link opposition fighters' positions in Daraa and Quneitra with Damascus' rebel-held Ghouta suburbs.
"The military objective is to secure lines of communication and to put pressure on the capital," said Faysal Itani, a resident fellow at the Atlantic Council.

Danish Jihadists on welfare while fighting for ISIS

Paying Islamists to Fight Infidels

  • It is "Idiots of Parade" time.  There is no end to the stupidity of Big Government socialism.

Denmark paid unemployment benefits to 28 people while they were waging war for the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) group in Syria, the Danish intelligence service was quoted as saying on Thursday.

Out of the 28 Danish people identified by the Danish Security and Intelligence Service (PET) as having received benefits, 15 had been ordered to pay the money back, eight people were still being investigated, and five cases had been dropped due to insufficient evidence, tabloid BT reported.

“It is incredibly important that we are not naive,” Danish Justice Minister Mette Frederiksen told the daily when asked about the data, which was found by merging records kept by different authorities reports al Arabiya.

Denmark has one of the world’s most generous unemployment insurance systems, with those on the scheme receiving up to 801 kroner per day (108 euros, $134) for up to two years.

However, some of the Jihadists were on a significantly more modest basic unemployment benefit also paid in Denmark.

Denmark has the second largest number of foreign fighters in Syria relative to its size among Western nations, after Belgium, according to some estimates.

The Danish intelligence service has said “more than 100” Danes have left the country for Syria’s bloody civil war, but a Danish commentator on Middle Eastern affairs, Naser Khader, said he believed the estimate -- from June -- was higher and needed to be revised upwards.

“The figure is rising in many other countries, so why should that not be the case in Denmark?” he told the Berlingske newspaper.

Germany’s intelligence agency said last week it believes 550 Germans have joined extremist groups in Syria and Iraq. Authorities had previously estimated the number at 450.

Britain believes around 500 of its citizens are fighting for ISIS.

China ends 2,000 year monopoly on salt

Monopoly

  • The Chinese state’s salt monopoly has survived 23 imperial dynasties, 37 years of republican rule, and 65 years of Communist government.

They say things change quickly in China, but that’s not always true. Some things take a very long time indeed to change. Like the government’s monopoly on table salt, in force for the last two millenniums.

But now, it seems, the longest-running economic policy in the world is running out of steam.

Last week the Chinese government announced it is drafting a plan to free up the sale of salt as part of its drive toward “the progressive completion of the market system.”

Such change would be truly historic: the Chinese state’s salt monopoly has survived 23 imperial dynasties, 37 years of republican rule, and 65 years of Communist government.

Under the monopoly, the government sets the retail price of salt, and it sets it high – four times the price that China Salt pays when it buys wholesale from approved producers. Chinese shoppers pay twice as much as American consumers for their salt. So there is a strong incentive for unscrupulous traders to sell cheap industrial salt, which is freely available but full of potentially harmful impurities, as table salt.

Tracking down such traders is a special “salt police force” whose job it is, among other things, to make sure that nobody is selling salt from one province elsewhere in the country.

“It’s a leftover from the old planned economy,” says Sun Jin, a professor at Wuhan University who specializes in competition law. “The government wants to marketize it.”

Once upon a time, salt was a pillar of the state’s authority, providing essential revenues. Today, according to independent estimates, profits from the China National Salt Industry Corporation bring in about 0.04 percent of the government’s income.

“The economic impact of this reform will probably be close to zero,” says Chen Long, an analyst for economics consultancy Dragonomics.

But that doesn’t mean it will be easy. The government has made five previous efforts to dismantle the state-owned salt bureaucracy (not counting a debate at the imperial court in 81 B.C. in which Confucian scholars argued against it) without success.

With more than 2,000 years behind it, the salt administration is well entrenched and its leaders have been able to fight off reformists. One argument they have made: what to do with the tens of thousands of people who work in the state system who would lose their jobs if the monopoly is abolished?

The real reason for their reluctance, though, says Prof. Sun, is that the table salt trade yields fat profits “that end up with a small group of top officials at China Salt and the government salt industry supervision department.”

Hillary Demands Royal Treatment On Speaking Tour

 "Corruptus in Extremis"

  • Bottom Line  -  No sane person pays $300,000 to hear a political hack speak.  This cold, hard cash is nothing more than a form of "legal" bribery.
  • The politician holds out his wallet and it is filled by the special interest group.  A boring and very forgettable speech is made.  Later the politician and his friends make sure the special interest group gets the government contracts, tax breaks to funding that it wants.

It was like a scene out of "The Princess and the Pea," only this was real life. Along with her $300,000 fee for her speech at UCLA , Hillary Clinton had a list of demands, one of which was "that the chairs be outfitted with two long, rectangular pillows — and that two cushions be kept backstage in case the chair was too deep and she needed additional back support."
Through a Freedom of Information Act request the Washington Post received the emails exchanged between UCLA and Clinton's people as they were preparing for her March 5, 2014 speech at the school.
The documents show that Clinton’s representatives at the Harry Walker Agency exerted considerable control over her appearance and managed even the smallest details — from requesting lemon wedges and water on stage to a computer, scanner, and a spread of hummus and cruditĂ© in the green room backstage.
When the University reminded Clinton's people that UCLA was a public school and asked for a reduction of the $300,000, the presumptive Democratic Party candidate's staff responded that $300,000 is the “special university rate.” The fee went to the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton foundation reports Truth Revolt.
It is commonplace for celebrity speakers to request special accommodations — and Clinton was no exception. Her representatives asked for a case of still water, room temperature, to be deposited stage right. They also asked that “a carafe of warm/hot water, coffee cup and saucer, pitcher of room temperature water, water glass, and lemon wedges” be situated both on a table on stage as well as in another room where Clinton would stand for photos with VIPs.
For the green room, Clinton’s representatives requested: “Coffee, tea, room temp sparkling and still water, diet ginger ale, cruditĂ©, hummus and sliced fruit.” They also asked for a computer, mouse and printer, as well as a scanner, which the university had to purchase for the occasion.

Clinton's team even micro-managed the way Clinton was to receive the UCLA Medal during her visit to the campus. The team asked that it be presented to her in a box rather than draped around her neck. Perhaps she did not want to direct her attention to her neck.
By contract, Clinton’s approval was needed for any promotional materials. Clinton gave permission for the university to record the event, but “for archival purposes only.” For public distribution, Clinton’s speaking agency approved only a two-minute highlight video to upload to YouTube. “Please make sure it is available only for one (1) year from the date of posting,” a Harry Walker Agency official added" [presumingly this was done incase she made a gaffe during her appearance].
Her staff even regulated the number of pictures she would stand for and whether or not there were "do overs."
“We get a total of 50 clicks,” one university official explained — as well as two group photos. Lippert wrote to colleagues that Clinton’s representatives wanted the group shots “prestaged,” with participants assembled and ready to take the photographs before Clinton arrived “so the secretary isn’t waiting for these folks to get their act together.”
During her book tour in June, Clinton caused an uproar when she told ABC's Diane Sawyer when she and Bill left the White House they were dead broke. It demonstrated a lack of compassion and understanding for those who are really impoverished. When that faux pas is added to other details, like her exorbitant speaking fees and list of royal of demands, it makes one wonder if she will be able to carry the populist message the progressive Democrats demand.

Random Thoughts - Are radio waves driving us insane?

Does he know something we don't?
Are humans fucking loons? or are
radio waves driving us insane?

By Gary;

It is a chicken and the egg thing.

Are people naturally stupid and/or mass murderers or has modern technology impacted our brains driving us nuts?

In the "olden days" you never saw the news stories that now happen almost everyday.  Today there is an endless stream of stories on naked people attacking strangers, sex with German shepherds, or a father killing his entire family.

There are two schools of thought here:  1)  as the family crumbles, rudderless members of society turn to drugs and booze causing insane behavior; or 2)  these stories have grown in number with the massive expansion of radio wave style communications that might be effecting our brain.

Science 101  -   Simply, for every action there is a reaction.

The brain is a mass of electric impulses. Logic says if modern society is sending massive amounts of electromagnetic waves through the air it must have some level of impact on the brain.

Is everyone impacted? No.  But if just 2% of the population is negatively impacted we are taking about millions of people.

Scientific American  -  Nonionizing radiation from power lines, personal wireless devices, cell phone towers and other sources is practically unavoidable. Extremely low frequency electromagnetic fields (EMF) surround home appliances as well as high-voltage electrical transmission lines and transformers.

Evidence of health effects from EMF, including their influence on the brain, is inconclusive, and the probability that EMF exposure is a genuine health hazard is currently small. Nevertheless, exposure to high levels of nonionizing energy, such as at radio wave frequencies, can damage the structure and function of the nervous system.
For example, microwave frequencies below 3,000 megahertz can penetrate the outer layers of the skin, be absorbed in the underlying tissues, and result in all of the known biological effects of heating, including burns, cataracts, and possibly death. Indeed, government regulators set most exposure limits to ensure that the amount of tissue heated by the absorption of energy is not in excess of what the body can take.
It is possible that heating is not the only effect of radiation. Some scientists claim that human tissue, including the brain, may be affected nonthermally.
Studies describe potential associations. For example, a recent report suggests that the low-intensity electromagnetic field of geomagnetic storms--disturbances in the earth¿s magnetic field caused by gusts of solar wind--may have a subtle but measurable influence on suicide incidence in women.

Muslim brothers strip a pregnant Christian woman naked and beat her

Christian woman miscarries after beating

Christian activists in Pakistan on Thursday called for the immediate arrest of two Muslim brothers involved in stripping a pregnant Christian woman naked and beating her.
The attack took place in Christian Colony, Rana Town, in Sheikhupura district of Punjab province on November 16.
Elishba Bibi, 28, who was three-months pregnant, suffered a miscarriage after the beating by two brothers, Muneeb and Mobeel Gondal, who allegedly attacked her because she had argued with their mother and sister.
Bibi told police she was beaten with a pipe, stripped and dragged into the street before falling unconscious. She was rescued after Christian neighbors called police reports UCA News.

“The suspects also snatched my mobile phone, a gold necklace and 1,000 rupees [about US$10], that was my salary,” she said.
Aslam Pervaiz Sahotra, a rights activist and Chairman of Human Liberation Commission of Pakistan (HLCP) condemned the attack, saying it was motivated because of Bibi’s faith.
Sahotra also criticized police for failing to arrest the suspects after almost two weeks. He accused police of conducting a half-hearted investigation with the intention of exonerating the suspects.
On Wednesday, he and other Christian activists protested outside the Lahore Press Club to demanded swift and strong action against the suspects and the investigators.
Sahotra quoted Bibi as saying that the Muslim family often tried to persuade her to convert to Islam. He also said Christians who filed charges against the brothers were being threatened.
“We are now receiving reports that Christian families are being told to withdraw the case or face mob violence on false blasphemy charges,” he told ucanews.com
He said that the HLCP had told senior police officers in Sheikhupura about the threats.
The attack on Bibi comes just a few weeks after a Christian couple was brutally beaten and burned to death by a 1,500-strong mob at a brick-making kiln after being accused of burning pages of the Qur’an.
