Nigel Farage steps down as Ukip leader after failure to win South Thanet

Voters Reject Secure Borders
  • UKIP does well in districts around England, but mindless voters support the open borders Conservative and Labour parties.

(The Telegraph)  -  Nigel Farage has announced that he is standing down as Ukip leader after failing to become an MP, but could return to the role later this year.
Mr Farage promised that he would resign if he failed in his bid to win the seat of South Thanet in Kent.
He said that he is recommending Suzanne Evans, the party's deputy leader, should take on the role until leadership elections in September.
Mr Farage is now planning to take his first holiday since 1993, but admitted that he may throw his hat into the ring for the leadership elections later this year.
After finishing second to Tory Craig MackInlay by almost 3,000 votes, he told activists "I'm a man of my word".
Mr Farage polled 16,026 votes, but Mr MackInlay did better - winning the backing of 18,838, with Labour third.
Senior Ukip aides were earlier preparing the ground for a major setback in the party’s attempts to become a national force, with the party possibly winning only Douglas Carswell’s Clacton seat.
Conservative defector Mark Reckless lost his Rochester and Strood seat to his former party.
Ukip aides said they expected Ukip to come second in as many as 150 seats across England, which could put the party in a good position to challenge in 2020.
Defeat for Mr Farage is likely to trigger a power-struggle within Ukip with Mr Carswell widely tipped as future leader.

Free Elections - What a Concept
Many parties elected and for voters to select from.  Maybe we could
try election freedom in the United States.
