Catching up on Winter Movies

Movies
No Better Way to Spend a Day

By Gary;

Movies are the one great creation of American culture.

I have been running behind on the latest films and am racing to catch up before they vanish from the Silver Screen.

Watching at home does not replace the theater. There is a magic experience when you sit in the dark with fellow fans together cheering one part of a film or screaming in terror at those "gotcha" moments.

Assassin's Creed

I am so old I remember playing the first video game Pong when it came out. While I still play some video games I have never bothered with Assassin's Creed.

No spoilers from me.  The special effects are top notch. You feel you are there in medieval Spain.

As usual Michael Fassbender does a wonderful job. But no amount of acting or special effects can help a rather weak script.

Still it is worth watching for the action.  Buy your popcorn, put your mind in neutral and enjoy.

Arrival

With this film we have pure, 100% Science Fiction.

Aliens come to Earth.  Over the decades Hollywood has been here before but usually it involved Will Smith attacking alien ships or Tom Cruise running from tri-pods.

No explosions or Death Rays. This is the thinking person's science fiction film which no doubt accounted for a lower box office.

Again the special effects are top of the line. The plot and acting are fairly good. A shout out goes to the artist who designed the alien lifeforms.

Worth a view.
