Atomic Blonde

Catching up on Movies

By Gary;

If Charlize Theron fell off the planet tomorrow I wouldn't notice.

In spite of that I decided to catch Atomic Blonde before it left the theaters.

The good part is there is endless and bloody action.  The bad part is Charlize Theron totally lacks any meaningful personality. She is nothing but a cold Ice Queen in this movie.

It helps to enjoy a film if you like the main characters and want to root for them.

In this case you really don't care if any of the characters live of die.  And throwing in a lesbian sub-plot (thought welcome) did not make me care.

Set in 1980s Berlin, Atomic Blonde is something of a copy cat off-shoot of the European based Jason Bourne series.

Blonde has pretty much shot its movie theater wad banking a timid $90 million box office worldwide.  But with a $30 million production budget, and adding in DVD, TV runs it will move into modest profit. Perhaps enough profit to get a Blonde #2.

Its an OK popcorn flick. I might catch it on FX in reruns, but if I don't I'll live.

Rating  -  5 out of 10
